A friend sent me a Facebook post today, and it reminded me why we are building Mthandizi.
The post described how difficult it can be to find reliable information about Malawi online. Whether someone is searching for a public institution, embassy, hospital, university, hotel, transport provider, business, tender, job, scholarship, or investment opportunity, finding the right information often takes longer than it should.
Too much valuable information remains scattered across Facebook posts, WhatsApp groups, outdated websites, and disconnected platforms.
This is not only an inconvenience. It has a real economic cost.
Every tourist who cannot confidently find accommodation or services, every investor who struggles to identify credible organizations, every entrepreneur whose business remains invisible, and every citizen who must travel just to ask a simple question represents lost time and lost opportunity.
That is one of the problems we are addressing through Mthandizi.
We are working toward a Malawi where organizations and businesses can establish a trusted digital presence and make their information easier to discover.
On Mthandizi:
• Government institutions and NGOs can publish announcements, tenders, opportunities, services, and important public information.
• Businesses can showcase their profiles, products, services, promotions, and contact channels.
• Hotels and tourism operators can improve the visibility of their properties, destinations, and visitor services.
• Universities and training institutions can publish programmes, scholarships, events, and application opportunities.
• Employers and recruiters can publish vacancies and manage applications more efficiently.
• Citizens, tourists, entrepreneurs, and investors can discover this information through structured directories, search, and Mthandizi’s AI assistant.
The goal is not simply to put more information online. It is to make reliable information easier to find, understand, and act on.
Digital infrastructure is not about technology for its own sake. It is about making Malawi easier to navigate, easier to visit, easier to invest in, and easier to do business with.
When information flows, opportunities follow.
Businesses become more visible. Organizations communicate more effectively. Tourism becomes easier to navigate. Citizens save time. Investors make better-informed decisions.
We still have a long journey ahead, but every organization that publishes trusted information, every business that becomes discoverable, and every person who finds what they need moves us closer to a more connected Malawi.
If you lead a business, NGO, institution, university, hotel, public organization, or service company, we invite you to establish your presence on Mthandizi and become part of the ecosystem we are building.
