Watching a ShoBox card from 2002. I miss both of these guys doing the commentary on a boxing broadcast. Professional and insightful, while not flooding your ears with useless words.
@DanRafael1@igz1377 Meh, we’re getting lost in semantics here because you just wanna disagree with me. Bottom line, we got way more “bang for our buck” then as part of our regular subscriptions. That was my central point.
I’ll go ahead and beat this dead horse for the hundredth time….
Twenty years ago, these four fights would be combined into two HBO Boxing After Dark double headers (non PPV).
In an ideal world, we should normally call & get a proper PPV card of
🥊Joshua vs. Prenga
🥊Spence jr. vs. Tszyu
🥊Romero vs. Lopez
🥊Itauma vs Hrgovic
But DAZN sliced and diced it and getting 4 PPV fights out of it within 34 days. Overpricing of boxers! @SteveKim323@iqnewz
Bruh, we literally paid $15 a month for HBO back then and the typical B.A.D. double header had better fights than most PPVs these days.
And we got the Sopranos, “Inside the NFL” (before it went to shit) and a bunch of other stuff.
@DanRafael1@igz1377 Boxing After Dark, HBO Championship Boxing, Showtime Championship Boxing… I think most of these PPV shows today would be part of our “regular” (non-PPV) subscriptions twenty years ago. That’s the point I was trying to make. Perhaps I could have articulated it better.
@DanRafael1@igz1377 Come on brother. Are you really trying to suggest that today’s product for the American boxing fan is of equal value (dollar to dollar) for what we got twenty years ago? I’m not saying it wasn’t without problems (it’s boxing!), but let’s be honest…
@lucas49er I get that. And I like the fact that they stream every fight on the card - that’s a huge advantage modern fight fans get compared to previous generations. I’m just talking about the quality of the main events.
@DanRafael1 You’re missing the point, Dan. What we got on regular HBO/Showtime in that era (BAD, HBO championship boxing, etc) were better quality match ups than most of the PPV cards fans are getting right now. Not ALL, but many of those shows were high quality, and much cheaper.
@igz1377@DanRafael1 I’m not saying every card was a hit, but some of the best fights of that generation were on that series. We routinely got fights on “regular” HBO (BAD, HBOCB) that were better than the average PPV card today; THAT was the point of my post. Dan missed the point.

@MonteroOnBoxing I remember the nights you got a card on Showtime too. So i could watch the first live and the one right after on DVR.
Nothing compares these days.
@MonteroOnBoxing It’s crazy how much better HBO championship boxing and B.A.D cards were compared to what we are getting on current PPVs. Barrera vs Morales 1, Mayweather vs Castillo, Chavez vs Taylor, Manny vs Marquez 1, De La Hoya vs Gatti (know that was a mismatch but huge names).I could go on
