Been hearing about lots of games shutting down for financial reasons lately.

STL has been consistently updated and maintained for 4+ years because we treat every dollar with respect. No Twitter business account. No bought followers. No over-hired team. Every server cost scrutinized.

The infra bills I hear other studios pay genuinely make me cringe. And I say that as someone who was spending thousands a month on servers back in 2022-2024. With AI and a DigitalOcean Linux box, you can build and optimize seriously complex systems at scale for a couple hundred dollars a month.

Example - our upcoming authoritative netcode runs physics at 30 ticks/sec. We conservatively expect ~$4 per 200 concurrent FPS users. It is as simple as using LLMs to optimize for CPU usage while preserving functionality. Iterate. Test. Deploy.

Staying lean isn’t a genius strategy. You just have to stop spending on stupid shit and respect the dollar.
