Went to Canary Wharf this weekend and really don’t understand the hate.

Yes it’s corporate and slightly artificial, but it’s clean, modern, connected, next to the water and just generally works. Reminds me of NYC, Chicago or Dubai.

For working professionals, that’s basically what a city should deliver. Decent flat prices, very good amenities, clean streets, proximity to central London. All my friends living there really love it.

I get that it’s not Notting Hill or Hampstead. But people call Canary Wharf soulless then somehow romanticise dirty streets, bad infrastructure, mouldy flats, overpriced converted houses and inconvenience into “character”.

At some point “soulless” just means “too functional” in a city that has convinced itself dysfunction is charm.
