A digital only future with shit like this around is bleak. Not only will you not own anything, but Sony can raise prices on a whim and you won’t even have the option to get used games or even borrow games from people anymore. This is strictly anti-consumer from every angle.
> raise console prices
> get rid of physical media
-> you are here <-
> raise game prices to $100 and beyond
> completely remove the ability to share any digital games
> buying new games will become an expensive hobby, but don't worry they'll definitely make a subscription tier for new games that come out
> hardware will become pricier, the cheapest way to play is using cloud gaming services
> offer a subscription that is reasonable at first
> gradually raise subscription prices
You will own nothing and be happy
If we don't act about Sony's outrageous decision to stop physical media in 2028, gaming might be doomed
It's 2029
You just bought a PS6
It cost 1200 dollars
All games are digital
They each cost 80 dollars
You have 4 in your library
Yesterday it was 5 but Sony removed one
They offered no refund, its just gone
You'd strangle yourself with the controller cord but its wireless
Absolutely dystopian day for gamers everywhere. Yes, even you who doesn't care about physical games and has a fully digital library.
All this does is funnel everyone into digital storefronts where PlayStation and co. control the pricing operation. You will lose additional options and pay more for games. Look at any nearby storefront's pricing versus what you'd pay for with that very same game on PSN.
This is not about upcoming handhelds or even that digital purchases outweighing physical. It is about maximizing the dollar spent everywhere and cutting out the middle man. Pulling the trigger when PSN isn't even feature complete with things like back compat, gifting games, has major security exploits, etc. is certifiably insane.

Strengthening the defense of our skies — a landmark agreement for 16 Swedish JAS 39 Gripen E fighters, arriving from early 2029.
First, 16 Gripen C/D land in early 2027 as Swedish military aid.
A historic step for our Air Force.
Denmark has unveiled its 30th military aid package for Ukraine worth €590 million.
The package includes additional ammunition, weapons and military equipment, as well as extra funding to train Ukrainian troops in Denmark.
This guy is not the sharpest pencil in the pack.
1) Stepan Bandera was arrested by the Nazis in 1941 and spent the rest of the war in the Sachsenhausen Nazi concentration camp.
2) His 2 brothers Vasyl and Oleksandr Bandera were arrested by the Nazis in 1941 and killed in 1942 in Auschwitz. How therefore could any of the 3 Bandera's have been involved in the killings of Poles?
3) Stepan Bandera has been dead for 67 years. He was murdered in 1959 by the KGB.
4) Zelenskyy is Jewish and his family was murdered in World War II in the Holocaust. If this clown believes Zelenskyy is a promoter of Nazism he is regurgitating Kremlin propaganda.
More fallout from last night's drone strike on the Donetsk–Mariupol highway bridge
Earlier, another bridge near Novoazovsk was also destroyed.
Kyiv appears to be methodically tightening the logistical noose around Russian-controlled Donetsk.
While Ukrainian forces are carrying out daily strikes on logistical and military targets in Crimea to further isolate the occupied peninsula, Ukrainian residents there say the campaign has given them hope of a possible deoccupation for the first time since the 2023 counteroffensive.

Ukraine has regained the initiative on the battlefield by striking Russia’s logistics, energy infrastructure and military assets, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said.
But he warned the window is closing as Moscow adapts, urging Western allies to accelerate billions in funding for drones, missiles and advanced weapons.

For the second time, our sanctions in response to Russia’s prolongation of the war have reached the oil refinery in Ufa, one of Russia’s largest producers of lubricants. The distance is more than 1,300 kilometers from the frontline.
Also in the Penza region, our weapons reached a strategic facility of Russia’s military-industrial complex involved in developing and manufacturing components for missile weaponry that the occupiers use to strike our cities and communities. The distance to the target is about 600 kilometers from the frontline.
Every day, our plan for imposing Ukrainian long-range sanctions is being implemented. This is an entirely just response to everything Russia is doing against us. Peace is needed, and this is exactly what Russia’s leadership must realize. Russia must end its war. And Russia’s leadership has every opportunity to do so. I thank every Ukrainian warrior who ensures our long-range accuracy.

All this talk about who will or won't run for president in Ukraine, whether this fall or after the war, simply isn't worth discussing at this point.
To hold even remotely free and credible elections in Ukraine, whether presidential or parliamentary, the country would first need a reasonably stable and sustained peace, free from active fighting and massive missile and drone attacks across its territory.
It would require virtually rebuilding the entire electoral system from scratch, starting with creating new voter rolls and electoral districts for a population that has been dramatically reshuffled by the war.
It would also require finding a way to allow millions of Ukrainians abroad, in the military, and under Russian occupation to vote, while ensuring that all candidates have a genuinely equal opportunity to conduct full-scale election campaigns.
(Yeah, because those yelling the loudest for elections right now will be the very first to start whining about "rigged" and "unrepresentative" elections if Ukraine holds them without the minimum conditions and if Zelensky ends up winning again.)
None of that is even remotely on the horizon as the largest and bloodiest Euroepan war since WWII goes on with no end in sight.
And frankly, I don't know how much more clearly Putin himself has to say that he intends to keep bathing in rivers of human blood until he ultimately drowns in them himself.
#Belarus The regime says it has “pardoned” 32 people, including 28 political prisoners convicted under the regime’s notorious “extremism” laws. Among them: 20 women and 12 men.
Just release them all.
Arrived in Ireland to take part in the opening ceremony of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. I will also meet with Taoiseach Micheál Martin and President of the European Council António Costa.
Every day, Ukraine proves that it deserves to be an equal part of our shared European home. And we hope that during Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, we will be able to achieve tangible progress on the path to membership and open all negotiating clusters.
⚡️Russia suffering 'one crisis after another' as Ukraine's drones hammer Crimea, Fedorov says.
"Crimea has essentially turned into a military base for the Russians, allowing them to continue occupying the south of our country and transfer forces to the east. Therefore, from both a military and logistical perspective, it is an important target for us," Fedorov said.

⚡️Putin urgently convened the Security Council over Kaliningrad
On the table — “top secret” red folders. We suggested what might be inside them.
Usually, such meetings are held on Fridays and via video link, but this time they were gathered on Wednesday and in person.
Kaliningrad is considered one of the main flashpoints of a possible conflict between Russia and NATO. Earlier, Putin promised to defend it “by any means necessary.”
