Russia spent the 1990s watching foreigners - Americans and Europeans - extract its wealth on their own terms - until Putin.

Under Yeltsin, Russia’s vast natural resources on Sakhalin were handed to foreign investors - literally, for pennies on the dollar. Production-sharing agreements gave foreign companies such as the American ExxonMobil or British Shell extraordinarily favorable terms: Russia received as little as 10 cents from every dollar of oil profits while investors enjoyed sweeping tax exemptions - even as ordinary people on the island froze in the cold.

Putin later called these deals “a colonial practice that had absolutely nothing to do with Russia’s interests,” and said the officials who signed them in the 1990s should have been jailed.

Immediately after taking power in 2000, Putin began dismantling the system. By 2004, 260 of 262 agreements had been terminated. The remaining projects were gradually returned to Russian control - Sakhalin-2 in 2006 and Sakhalin-1 in 2022.

Yet Western narratives still insist Yeltsin was the decolonizer.

* Hillary Clinton — Co-founded a toddler home in Washington DC with Teresa in 1995. The home was quietly shut down in 2012. No records of where the children went.

There is a treaty called Anglo-Egyptian Nile Waters Agreement signed in 1929 that prevents Kenya from using Lake Victoria water for farming.

They tried to extend that treaty to Ethiopians but they said they will use water passing in their land in whichever way they want, Egypt and Ethiopia almost went to war.

Our politicians are cowards. We have a massive water body yet we cannot use it for farming because of useless pacts while Egypt uses the same water for farming and exporting that food to us.

The Price of Manufactured Consensus

The conspiracy theorists were dismissed, deplatformed and cast out for the simple act of remaining naturally sceptical of government initiatives. That reflex alone was treated as evidence of irrationality.

During the COVID period the presence of paid influencers and content aggregators pushing health messaging should have been the first clear red flag. Why does any administration need to hire online amplifiers for matters as serious as public health?

The question was rarely asked in public, and those who asked it were deliberately isolated.

This is a precautionary tale. If you know you lack the time or the analytical bandwidth to examine every claim yourself, then the choice of who you follow and whose advice you accept becomes critical.

The people most frequently dismissed, maligned, profiled and castigated are targeted for a reason: so that the dominant narrative can travel unchallenged. Once the field of acceptable opinion has been narrowed, the rest becomes easier to manage.

When I say that EDWIN SIFUNA or RIGATHI GACHAGUA function as government projects, the observation is not born of personal animus. It is an assessment of pattern and utility.

The same applies to the political options currently being packaged and presented by Uhuru Kenyatta. Figures such as FRED MATIANGI, who was banging tables and barking orders like a colonial chief while enforcing vaccine compliance, are not new faces of reform. They are known quantities whose previous methods are a matter of public record.

Those who choose to ignore these patterns do not injure the person issuing the warning. They simply inherit the consequences themselves.

Manufactured consensus has a short shelf life. What follows it is usually paid for by the people who accepted it at face value.
