Ryo's expression in #ShenmueTheAnimation is really how the Shenmue community feels about Sega at times.

It would be lovely if @FiGGYZOfficial made a magnetic wall frame to display Waves 1-3 of all the #Shenmue Figgyz.

Something like this but obviously not a crappy AI knockup.

Cheers. 👍 You look lovely today, by the way.

Niao Sun shares a few things in common with Eva Durix from the Virtua Fighter anime. They are both seductresses and female femme fatalities who are in a main villain role and they both cause problems for both Akira and Ryo in their respective franchises. And they sort of look similar and alike on some level.

Guizhang Chen is strikingly similar and resembles a main villain from the Virtua Fighter anime named Liu Kowloon, the high ranking leader of the Koenkan criminal syndicate/martial arts organization. The only difference is that Guizhang is a major ally to Ryo in the Shenmue series and actively helps him oppose the Chi You Men, while Liu is a major antagonist in the Virtua Fighter anime, and causes problems for Akira and the characters. He also is trying to force Pai-Chan into an arranged marriage.

If there's anybody out there still doubting the connections between Shenmue and Virtua Fighter, then this screenshot and image should hit home why they're similar when you ignore the obvious development and narrative connections between them, and how Shenmue was originally developed as Virtua Fighter RPG, but how this screenshot shows Ryo vs Lan Di from Shenmue 3 and Akira fighting Lau-Chan in an intense battle with each other. Given that Ryo and Akira have the same fiery disposition, determined energy, martial arts discipline, and intense focus, it really makes sense when you stop and think about it.

This screenshot belongs to Hikari, a well known member of the @shenmue_dojo fansite.

Here's another old shot of Akira from @VF_SEGA doing his best impression of Ryo! 🥋 Is it just us, or could that be an early version of Mimi, the orphaned kitten from the original Shenmue? 🐈

This is one Shenmue/Virtua Fighter connection I literally had no idea about! Guizhang and Pai-Chan share the same fighting style of Minzongquan (called Ensei-ken in Japanese) and also known by its other name of Yanqingquan as well. Guizhang is literally the total opposite of Pai when it comes to personality, but they share the same combat martial arts and that's just awesome.

I really wish more people really knew how closely connected and intrinsically bonded Shenmue and Virtua Fighter are because this is one of the more fascinating ones.

Edit: screenshot made by Hikari, a member of the @shenmue_dojo fansite and they can also be found at @ShenmueVF.
