There are literally THOUSANDS of papers talking about how Covid infection can do this. From cellular level to population studies, none of this is secret, it's all out there.

people get evicted, deported (as we’ve seen in the US), or even unexpectedly pass away
I can’t imagine the heartache of having to unwillingly rehome my pets
