President Trump is sending more military power to the Middle East as Iran rejects our initial peace offers—setting the escalation trap.

We can avoid that trap if we are wise enough not to believe our own hype. Bombing Iranian equipment and killing leaders may produce great hype reels, but if the GWOT taught us anything, it is that tactical success does not equal strategic victory.

To avoid a major disaster, we must first define what is truly vital to our national interests and act accordingly—regardless of optics of the daily news cycle.

We need the Strait of Hormuz open so oil can flow and stability can return to the energy markets and the Gulf region. These are realistic, achievable goals. They can be reached by significantly reducing our military footprint in the region and lifting sanctions on Iran. We can then tout Iran’s agreement not to build a nuclear weapon as a clear win for the media.

The key to avoiding the escalation trap and a disastrous quagmire is restraining Israel by drastically limiting the military aid we provide. Israel cannot sustain this fight without us, and will do everything they can to keep us engaged. We must pursue our own objectives, not theirs.

If we try to impose a maximalist outcome on Iran (zero enrichment, etc.) this war will undoubtedly escalate—costing American lives, billions more dollars, and ultimately eroding our global standing.

We must learn from our past and recognize when it is time to cut our losses and walk away. In the end, working to restore order will strengthen America far more than any military action ever could.

@USAmbUN is bragging about a $570M “saving” basically echoing the SG’s $577M proposal. Approved 2026 budget is $3.45B down from $3.72B so the real cut is about $270M unless you’re doing creative math now. It feels like your whole administration runs on miscalculations.

به نظر می‌رسد فاصله میان حرف-اقدام در راهبرد نظامی–جنگی ایران به شکل محسو�� و عینی کاهش یافته و مؤلفه‌ی «اعتبار تهدید» به‌عنوان هسته‌ی سخت بازدارندگی تقویت شده است.

در ادبیات بازدارندگی، تهدید زمانی کارآمد تلقی می‌شود که نه‌تنها اعلام شود، بلکه قرائن رفتاری و عملی نیز آن را تأیید کنند؛ به بیان دیگر، تهدید معتبر محصول هم‌زمان قابلیت و اراده است، نه صرف بیان لفظی. مشکلی که در این سالیان به ویژه پیش از جنگ ۱۲ روزه و جنگ اخیر گریبان ایران را گرفت و منجر به حمله نظامی به کشور شد.

به نظر می‌رسد، در حال حاضر و در این برهه از صحنه نبرد، هم‌ترازی میان حرف و عمل در حال انباشت تدریجی سرمایه بازدارندگی ایران است. سرمایه‌ای که نه با انکار، ��غراق، افراط و تردید، بلکه از مسیر تکرار کنش‌های قابل مشاهده، سیگنال‌��هی شفاف و تثبیت الگوهای رفتاری قابل پیش‌بینی شکل می‌گیرد. در چنین چارچوبی، هر اقدام عملی به‌مثابه داده‌ای در ذهن رقیب ثبت می‌شود و به‌مرور، برآورد او از هزینه–فایده‌ی تقابل را بازتنظیم می‌کند.

برآیند این فرآیند آن است که ادبیات تهدید از سطح یک ژست سیاسی یا عملیات روانی، به یک پیام راهبردی معتبر ارتقا می‌یابد؛ پیامی که پیش از تحقق عینی، در ساحت ادراک و محاسبه‌ی دشمن اثر می‌گذارد و او را به خودمهارگری وادار می‌کند. این همان کارکرد کلاسیک بازدارندگی است؛ یعنی تأثیرگذاری بر تصمیم حریف، پیش از آن‌که بخواهد اقدامی انجام دهد.

با این حال، باید توجه داشت که بازدارندگی پدیده‌ای انباشتی و در عین حال شکننده است؛ ذره‌ذره ساخته می‌شود و با خطاهای محاسباتی یا گسست در اعتبار و یا تضعیف اهرم‌های نظامی، به‌سرعت فرسوده می‌گردد.

The Iranian ship will not be where it was if we had not invited it to talk part in our Milan exercise.

We were the hosts.

I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless.

The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before our president .

The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship’s presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind.

The US has ignored India’s sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India’s invitation.

We are far from politically or militarily responsible for the US attack.

Our“responsibility” is at a moral and human plane.

A word of condolence by the Indian Navy ( after political clearance) at the loss of lives of those who were our invitees and saluted our president would be in order.

By now, the whole world should know that:

(1) Iran solely acts in self-defense. Even in the face of the most outrageous aggression against our people, Iran has so far only retaliated against the Israeli regime and not those who are aiding and abetting it. Just like Netanyahu manufactured this war to destroy diplomacy, the world should be highly alarmed about increasing attempts by the failing Israeli regime to get others to bail it out and to expand the flames to the region and beyond.

(2) Iran has proven in action what it has always publicly committed itself to: we have never sought and will never seek nuclear weapons. If otherwise, what better pretext could we possibly need for developing those inhuman weapons than the current aggression by the region's only nuclear-armed regime?

(3) Iran will continue to exercise its right to self-defense, with pride and bravery, and we will make the aggressor regret and pay for its grave error.

(4) With the exception of the illegitimate, genocidal and occupying Israeli regime, we remain committed to diplomacy. As before, we are serious and forward-looking in our outlook.
