Watch: An awkward exchange between Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), and anti-immigrant activist Phakelumthakathi outside the Boksburg Magistrate's Court.

In the clip, Phakelumthakathi urges that the Ekurhuleni murders not be turned into a gender issue. He then reverses course, claiming that a woman is involved in every kidnapping.

Mathe quickly steps in: "I don't think we should speculate. Let's leave it to the detectives."

Later in the video, Phakelumthakathi pleads with the spokesperson to let his group be deployed to man the country's porous borders.
