Community Manager vs Moderator!!! whatโs the difference? ๐งต
A lot of people use these titles interchangeably.
Theyโre not exactly the same.๐
1/ Moderator ๐ก๏ธ
Focus: keeping the community healthy.
Manage chats
Remove spam/scams
Handle conflicts
Enforce rules
Welcome new members
Keep conversations active
2/ Community Manager
Focus: growing and managing the community.
Build community strategy
Plan events & campaigns
Gather community feedback
Improve engagement
Coordinate with the team
Turn members into active contributors
3/ The simple difference:
A Moderator manages the conversation.
A Community Manager manages the community experience.
Both roles matter, but the responsibilities can be very different.
4/ If you're trying to land a Community Manager role, don't just say:
โI'm active and good at communicating.โ
Show them what you can actually do.
Talk about:
Engagement
Events
Community growth
Feedback
Retention
Problem-solving
5/ And if you're pitching yourself...
Don't pitch yourself as someone who just wants the position.
Pitch yourself as someone who has already identified a community problem + a practical way to solve it.
That immediately gives the project something concrete to respond to.
Ire oo.
