Fuel was the biggest reason UK inflation rose to 3.5% in September.

Duty and VAT rates haven't changed, so the rise is in the fuel itself: about 47p a litre more for diesel than a year ago.

UK inflation hit 3.5% in September, and fuel did the heavy lifting.

@ONS says motor fuels made the biggest upward contribution. Petrol averaged 169.5p a litre (up 8.2p in a month) and diesel 192.5p.
