Fire personnel cannot safely and effectively fight fire from the ground due to vertical terrain. A Type 3 helicopter will be doing water dumps.

Update: helicopter drops have saturated the 1 acre fire. Fire crews and @JeffcoOpenSpace rangers will continue to monitor, and smoke will likely still be seen tomorrow. This will be the final update unless there’s a change.

We’re at Mt Falcon Park, command post for a small fire on the mountain. Fire is less than 1/2 acre in size. Cause is lightning strike. @IndianHillsFire and @FoothillsFire are on scene. Park is currently closed.

REOPEN: All park and trail closures associated with the #BaldMountainFire have been lifted. Stay on trail. Burned areas are more susceptible to erosion and damage.

Snags (trees weakened by the fire) are a major threat to wildland firefighters -killing and injuring firefighters each year. #BaldMountainFire firefighters identify, flag and drop snags to improve safety on the line.

Firefighters now report 50% containment on #BaldMountainFire. Firefighters will remain on the fireline overnight and will be back on the fire Sunday.

Firefighters prepare for water transfer from water tenders (tanker trucks carry approx 2000 gallons) to Type 6 fire trucks (carry 300 gallons in heavy duty pickup fire trucks). Access to the fire is difficult for large trucks & all water must be trucked to #BaldMountainFire

Firefighters begin to arrive at the #BaldMountainFire to prepare for a second day of hard work. Terrain is a challenge, grass, brush and trees fuel the fire and large areas of unturned fuel are a risk.
