@SamLaliberte2@lroncryptic@RealBababanaras No one died in Japan that I am aware of. The USGS estimates the fatalities in the twin/doublet quakes are between 10,000 and 100,000

How hot is it in France on Monday?
Only 1.2 percent of the planet will be hotter than France's hottest place.
Places that will be hotter include the Sahara Desert, Desert Southwest and Middle East.
@grange_hillel@afshineemrani@DarioAmodei@JeffBezos@larryellison@davidsinclair With longer healthy and productive lifespans where one is not old and frail, there are additional years where a person can still support others.
It pushes back the time when that person has to be supported by others around them, and allows them to take care of themselves longer
The Massive shift caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Philippines has literally changed the coastline.
In parts of Sarangani and Davao Occidental in the southern Philippines, the ground rose dramatically, lifting the seabed by up to 2 metres. The ocean then pulled back around 200 metres, exposing huge stretches of coral reefs and seagrass that are normally hidden underwater.
Marine life including fish, eels, clams and other sea creatures have been left stranded and are now dying, creating a major environmental problem and raising fears that contaminated seafood could make its way into markets.
Authorities have brought in police patrols, coastal monitoring and inspections to stop people collecting or selling affected marine life.
For communities already dealing with the destruction from a powerful earthquake, this has become another serious threat.
🇷🇺 According to Russian media and local publications, a “semi-covert” mobilization has already begun in Russia:
▪️ Men are being detained directly on the streets, pulled out of cars, and forced to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense.
📍 In several regions, the detention of men on the streets has begun.
📍 According to Russian news channels, people are being pulled out of cars and taken to military commissariats, where they are forced to sign contracts with the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Defense.
📍 According to reports, local authorities have received a plan to recruit several thousand new servicemen.
📍 It is reported that similar raids are taking place simultaneously and on a large scale in several cities across the country.
These reports indicate a significant escalation in coercive recruitment methods as Russia struggles to compensate for massive losses on the front and the increasing pressure from Ukrainian long-range strikes. The “semi-covert” nature allows the Kremlin to avoid an official full mobilization while still attempting to bolster its forces.
@vadim07751823 Meanwhile, Russia is conducting a "human safari" in Kherson, deliberately practicing on/hunting civilians with drones.

Forced "bus abductions" of civilians have begun in Russia.
Staff from conscription offices in Penza are driving through the city in black minibuses and literally abducting residents to send them to the front. This is reported by the channel "Razgovory o Vatnom," which notes that these incidents are occurring not only in Penza itself but throughout the region. The media outlet "Astra" has published a video of one such abduction; it shows passersby attempting to wrest the victims away from the recruiters.
For years, Russian propaganda stoked fears regarding the horrors of forced mobilization—often referred to as "bus abductions"—in Ukraine. Yet, it remains conspicuously silent about similar forced roundups within Russia—even though, unlike in Ukraine, people there are being forcibly sent to the front without even an official mobilization order.
@NikosMohammadi Having also lived in Europe and the US Vienna currently and previously NYC for a few decades. I have to say I really love the electricity of possibility in the air, and free-thinking mindset of the USA.
I often say about Vienna that "nothing happens", which is both good and bad
@ho_ben@AndyMasley Which link is that? The Wikipedia article on LCOE doesn't seem to suggest that. LCOE is famously a metric for investors and not grid engineers or electrical engineers.
LCOE accounts for a 20-30 year asset lifetime, which works for wind and solar but nuclear's ~80 year lifetime
@ho_ben@AndyMasley Here is a scientific journal article from Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews as to why LCOE is insufficient to compare nuclear to renewables, it's like comparing apples and oranges.
"Toward a full cost of electricity: A systematic review ..."

@ho_ben @da_sails @AndyMasley "Intended life" is not the correct phrase here. "Licensed life" is what you are thinking of
Nuclear plants can and do get their licenses extended by decades,Turkey Point is an example. You are confusing how long a permit was given to how long the plant can theoretically operate
@World_At_War_6 I've seen multiple reports that it was a Shahed 358, but I've seen no one but you claim it was a Shahed-136 type drone
