I Swear (2025) - Inspiring story and well done. Nothing special as a movie making exercise but I cried. Wishing all the best to all those dealing with Tourette syndrome.
Cocktail (1988) - A charismatic entertaining movie with horrible writing and a kitchen sink approach to drama. Worth a watch but also some uncomfortable laughs at the badness
UHF (1989) - Grossly underrated 80s comedy. The Weird Al music videos don’t hold up but the rest of the movie is classic. Michael Richards puts in one of the best comedic performances ever. And a deep cast of talent really lets this one hold up if you like the genre.
The Odyssey (2026) - Fantastic movie making. Action packed and exciting but also give the sense of time drawing on and on. It hit the major plot points without getting too bogged down in any. Well done!
Role Models (2008) - A very strong comedy of the time. Seann William Scott steals the show and again shows he’s an underrated comedic (only comedic) talent. Lots of great writing and big roles from alumna of The State.
Dial M for Murder (1954) - A classic Hitchcock. A complicated mystery with some very experimental shots. Not the acting of some other of Hitch’s classic and some silly moments but still excellent
Secret Mall Apartment (2024) - Inspired documentary that most explores art as a lifestyle and art in the service of kindness than the amazing apartment itself. Very good watch.
The Outfit (2022) - Really good movie and interesting plot. It lacked some oomph as only the lead actor had any charisma - and that’s said about an actor who’s calling card might be “no charisma but still great”.
In Bruges (2008) - One of our all time favorites. Deeply funny, poignant, beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, and understated. One of the almost perfect movies
Nope (2022) - Outstanding, unique, and creative. Jordan Peele is an American genius. It has a perfect balance of mystery, action, lightness, and fun. And it always looks great
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) - Really entertaining flick. The plot is fantastic so it’s not shocking it’s one of the great novels ever. Acting is a bit melodramatic for my taste but I really enjoyed it.
