Today we recognize rising senior Madeleine Seal '26, the #University of @Penn Book Award recipient. This award is awarded to a junior who best exemplifies the qualities and characteristics of #BenjaminFranklin a scholar, innovator, and one who serves the #community. Madeleine is a scholar par excellence, and she makes it all look easy. In Profe York's 8th-grade Honors #Spanish class, students engaged in a hands-on, interpretive activity designed to deepen their comprehension skills. After reading a passage in Spanish, students used @PlayDoh to sculpt scenes from the story. This creative task encouraged students to think critically about vocabulary and context, while demonstrating their understanding through visual representation. It was a playful yet rigorous way to reinforce interpretive proficiency and bring language learning to life.

Today we recognize rising senior Peyton Katz, the recipient of the Rensselaer Medal.
This medal is awarded to a junior who is at or near the top of their class and excels in advanced math and science courses. The student must demonstrate potential for success in a challenging academic setting and exhibit significant involvement in extracurricular activities. Peyton is a bright student with interests and strengths in many academic areas. He is kind and thoughtful, and has an exemplary work ethic. He has an intuitive understanding of the STEM fields. While maintaining his own high academic standards, he has continued to play the trombone, and participate in multiple sports. Congratulations, Peyton!

On June 5th, we recognize rising senior Emmy Casey, honored with the Dartmouth College Book Award. This award is given to a student at or near the top of the class who demonstrates strong character, has made a positive contribution to the school community, and excels in at least one non-academic area. Emmy is a tireless dynamo of academic and extracurricular action. Everything about this student—from her superlative performance in the classroom to her leadership in theatrical productions and the cheer squad—makes her an exemplary member of the Country Day community. On May 13th, our talented 6th-grade students participated in the annual Living Wax Museum. Each student researched a historical figure from United States history, created a website, and developed a monologue. On the big day, the students dressed as their historical person and performed the monologues for the Country Day community. It was a fantastic way to celebrate their hard work and enhance their understanding of history.

As we begin summer, we would like to take time to recognize academic achievements from this past school year.
Today, we recognize Anne Marie George, a rising senior. During the Academic Awards Ceremony, Anne Marie was presented with the Harvard Book Prize, awarded annually to an outstanding junior based on unmistakable excellence in scholarship, strength of character, and significant contributions to the school and/or community. Anne Marie is the epitome of what a Country Day student stands for. She is an academic leader, and a model of character, enthusiasm, and positivity. Her depth and breadth of knowledge across academic departments is profound. She is also a talented musician, an active participant in service learning, and a truly lovely individual.

To celebrate a great year in Middle School, our Student Council hosted its second annual Spring Fair to celebrate the end of the year. Students were treated to festive music, fun games and activities, cupcakes and a dunking booth! A big thank you to our student council members for continuing this wonderful middle school tradition!

Last week, we gathered in Weinmann Auditorium to bid farewell to the 5th-grade class as they "sauntered" their way into their Middle School journey next year. The 5th-grade families enjoyed hearing how close and mighty this Country Day class is - we cannot wait to see all they will do in the future! As a special touch, the 5th-grade students were escorted by their Pre-K buddies, adding to the sense of unity and growth within the school community. A particularly touching moment was when Ms. Mimi read aloud what each Pre-K student thought their buddy would grow up to be. It was a precious and endearing experience that showcased the bond between the older and younger students. As we said our goodbyes, we couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and pride for the bright futures that lie ahead for these students in Middle School!

Last Friday, we gathered in Weinmann Auditorium to bid farewell to our 8th-grade students as they transition to Upper School next year. We enjoyed reflecting on their middle school years through a heartfelt slideshow and were inspired by Mr. Whyte's words on the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in Upper School. Additionally, three representatives from the 8th grade—Rocko Arata, Cooper Godiwala, and Thomas Holinga—shared their reflections on the Class of 2029. Congratulations to the 8th grade! We look forward to witnessing your achievements in the Upper School.

On #Monday and #Tuesday, our lower school students enjoyed a fun-filled celebration during Water Day. They slid, splashed, blew bubbles and soaked up the sunshine while enjoying the beautiful weather with friends. It was a joyful and refreshing way to slide into #summer!

Weinmann Auditorium was filled to the brim on last night as students, families, and coaches united to honor the remarkable achievements of our student-athletes. Their dedication and hard work in their respective sports throughout the year left us in awe. Congratulations to all who participated in athletics and supported our teams! This Spring, the 7th grade visited the @WWIImuseum. Students started off in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, where they answered questions about the Homefront and the contributions of Americans to the war effort. They followed the US campaigns in Europe and the Pacific and the various fronts and fighting that ensued in the Campaigns of Courage exhibit. While touring the @Boeing Center, students completed a scavenger hunt and plane identification and listened to oral histories of Americans who participated in the war. Finally, they viewed the testimony of Holocaust survivors and the impressions of US soldiers who liberated the Concentration camps near the end of the war in the Liberation Pavilion.

In April, our junior and senior high school students who demonstrated superior academic achievement were celebrated during the Annual Cum Laude Dinner. The Cum Laude Society, which is the high school equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa, is a prestigious national organization founded in 1906 that recognizes and honors superior scholastic achievement. We are limited to the number of students that we can elect based on a percentage of juniors and seniors in any given year. Their nomination is based on their superior GPA, good character, honor, and integrity in all aspects of their school life. Congratulations to all the deserving students!

Congratulations to this team of readers representing Country Day in the “Battle of the Books” last Friday afternoon! They took first place against Newman, Sacred Heart, and Central Intermediate School and gained valuable lessons on how to be a good teammate, represent their school, stay positive, and persevere despite a tough start. The 6th-grade Spring Spectacular was a fun and inspiring evening that celebrated all the ways students are growing as young artists. Families were treated to performances by the chorus, orchestra, and band, showing off the hard work and musical skills the students have built this year. In between the music, students took the spotlight to recite poems they had carefully selected and memorized, adding a personal and thoughtful touch to the show. The night also featured a colorful art display filled with creative pieces made in class, which are displayed in the Georges Art Gallery. The Spring Spectacular was a great reminder of just how talented, creative, and expressive our sixth graders are!

On Friday evening, Country Day was alive with excitement as we gathered to honor our beloved seniors and their families at the annual Senior Supper. The Class of 2025 celebrated their achievements, reminisced on cherished memories, and received their yearbooks. It was a night to remember, filled with laughter, tears, and a sense of pride that permeated throughout the room. This Spring the 5th graders went on a field trip to Junior Achievement’s BizTown to wrap up their financial literacy lesson. They had the best time working, earning paychecks, taking out loans, going to the bank, spending their money, and keeping track of their account balances, further fostering money management skills.

On Friday, April 25th, students came together to learn about and celebrate the life-saving impact of organ donation during Operation Donation, an annual event sponsored by the Legacy Donor Foundation of Louisiana. The event, led by committee co-chairs Kate Grant ’26 and Hayden Moore ’26, featured a vibrant array of carnival games and activities designed to engage both middle and upper school students. Through fun and interactive experiences, participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of organ donation and the powerful role it plays in saving lives.
