The Sony Walkman came out 45 years ago today. It would sell 200m units and ushered in age of personal consumer electronics (cellphone, iPod, iPhone).
An interesting detail is that Akio Morita — Sony’s legendary boss at the time — thought it would be too “anti-social” and instructed his team to build the first Walkman with two headphone jacks.
He was right about the anti-social aspect (people plugged in by themselves) but consumers clearly preferred the solo version.
When there's more people outraged by the destruction in Metropolis in Man of Steel, than the destruction in Gaza, you know society has a serious problem.
Well it finally happened. TIM CAPPELLO live in chains, oil and codpiece thirty-five years after he ripped the 🎷 on the Santa Carla boardwalk in 1987’s The Lost Boys.
Surreal night that I’ll never forget!!
RIP John Saxon. My charming costar in A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, DREAM WARRIORS and WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE. John was my link to Hollywood’s Golden Age. Sharing stories of working with Jimmy Stewart, Marlon Brando, Clint Eastwood Audrey Hepburn, Robert Redford & Bruce Lee.
Every one of his movies could be considered dark, twisted fairy tales, but @RealCliveBarker’s NIGHTBREED might be the most magical, mythical, and murderous of them all.
(And it stars David Cronenberg so that’s a fantasy in itself.)
