@Golgi4HFA You ever wonder where you get 90% of the energy to function from? That’s all me, your friendly neighborhood mitochondria. There’s basically no neighborhood without me. #votemitochondria
@Golgi4HFA@officialcandf18 Well, the mitochondria is necessary to the cell and all the organelles because it provides the chemical energy needed (in the form of ATP) for the cell to function.
The mitochondria is the location of the Kreb’s Cycle and ETC steps of Cellular Respiration, which makes up to 36 ATP molocules- enough energy for cells to function! #OHSCellCampaign2018
Fun fact: The mitochondria, which is a brownish red color, is the only colored part of the cell. Without melanin in human skin, skin would take on the color of the mitochondria!
@Cyto2018@ribosomee2018 The mitochondria is more important than both the ribosomes and the cytoskeleton, without the energy made in the mitochondria you wouldn’t survive. #OHSCellCampaign2018
Mitochondria are not only the powerhouse of the cell: they store calcium ions, which helps cells sustain the right concentration of particles to help prevent muscle contraction, blood clotting, etc.
The mitochondria creates 90% of the chemical energy needed for a cell to function. None of the other organelles, and the cell as whole, would be able to function without the mitochondria!
