Fab to see PhD Researcher @MPRotundo’s work featured in @ExaminerSport calling for hits to the head sanctions in Hurling @officialgaa
Mario found that impacts to the side of the head were 2.7x more likely to result in visible signs of concussion than those to the front/back👇
Check out my latest paper in the IJMS on the characteristics of potential concussions in Hurling. With more answers come more questions... Stay tuned! Thanks to @ExaminerSport for featuring.

🤩PhD ASSESSMENTS🤩
Congratulations to our PhD Researchers @MPRotundo and @DSokolRandell who successfully completed their Initial Assessments. 👏👏
These projects are related to Head Impacts/Head Acceleration Events within #GAA & Soccer; supervised by Dr Greg Tierney et al!🧠⚽️
Reminder most former #soccer players we confirm #CTE in have no notable #concussion history but do have repetitive head impact - #heading - exposure.
And risk greater w high exposure field positions and longer careers
Football #concussion mgmt woeful but far from main issue

In elite GAA #Hurling, assessment of potential concussions is not meeting current GAA #concussion guidelines. We need standardized concussion assessment, training, & #education to improve the safety culture surrounding #HeadInjury.
Check out our newest paper on the assessment of potential concussions in Hurling. In the fastest field sport on earth, standardized and consistent concussion assessment must be ensured. @DrMDCusimano@DSokolRandell@EIRN_Ireland @GTBiomech

To guide player protection strategies relating to concussion in the GAA, we must first understand how these injuries occur. Check out our latest paper! @DSokolRandell. Special thanks to @drconordeasy @DrMDCusimano @gjtierney and @EIRN_Ireland

We have been advocating for a temporary substitution for head injuries in soccer for years. Medical staff need to be given time to properly assess players, otherwise players may be sent back to play with a serious head injury
The research is out there, and incidents continue to occur. Players are not receiving adequate concussion assessment. Football, as well as the GAA, are behind the curve... How long will this continue?
