“Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” Dale Carnegie
If you want to make an experience personal, know who you are serving and reference them often and in the correct manner.
One thing that I do before I record my podcast is spend time talking to my guests and asking them if there are any things that they would like me to help highlight while recording. I hope to use that time to elevate someone else’s work and influence.
But I also ask them the proper pronunciation of their name to ensure that I am not only saying it often, but I am saying it right. Even when I am 99% sure I am correct on the pronunciation, I still ask the question.
It is a simple thing to do that has a massive importance to others. The same is true in the classroom, and the acknowledgment and the effort to ensure that you get names right can make a huge impact on ensuring others feel valued for their contributions.
Brainstorming opportunities for community engagement with the principals @ Jackson and Rhodes. We are excited about a potential fall and spring event that features our students, programs, and partners. Stay tuned!
