@BMS_Saugus When she was 11, she and her father moved to the United States, where she enrolled in school for the first time.

@BMS_Saugus Even when the war ended and she was reunited with her father, she still faced hatred and discrimination.

@BMS_Saugus She spent the first 10 years of her life on the run. She lived with several extended family members, some kind and others cruel.

@BMS_Saugus Mrs. Applefield was born in Poland in 1935. When the Nazis invaded, her parents were put in concentration camps while she was hidden away.
