【Profound Jilin Culture·A Treasure of Jilin】How crazy were ancient Chinese about luxury goods? How fancy can a belt even be? Its decked out with gold, jade, and conch shells! Back thousands of years ago, this was the ultimate luxury item and a huge status symbol in ancient China. Today, let’s explore this national treasure at Jilin Provincial Museum — the ancient white jade belt with gold buckle!
Stepping into the Peng Zushu Art Museum in Jilin Province,an exquisite micro-carving treasure, The Analects of Confucius, is quietly on display.
In 2010, Peng Zushu, a Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts, completed this work at the age of 78.
The inkstone measures 26 cm × 31 cm,roughly the size of a 14-inch laptop.
Within this confined space of stone, over 17,000 characters of The Analects are meticulously arranged.
Each character occupies just 1 square millimeter, and the total text would fill fifteen A4 sheets if written out.
The artist pioneered a unique technique of "holding the knife in one hand and pushing the stone with the other."
Carving almost entirely blind, he maintained steady, precise control over the blade's path on the stone without the slightest deviation.
On the stone's perimeter, the artist skillfully used its natural colors to carve a scene of nine coiling dragons.
Within this tiny, unyielding stone, the essence of Chinese cultural lineage and the mastery of traditional intangible cultural heritage are fully contained.
