Thrilled to have been appointed as a non executive director of the incredible Association of Education Advisors (AoEA).
Bringing the gap between excellent advice and educational leadership, the AoEA is UK based with a global reach.
Looking forward to the work ahead!
Interesting, as professional educator with 25 yearsโ experience empowering and enabling student voice, to attend @NCTJ_news Class Reps meeting today as a nominated rep for my cohort @NewsAssociates. @theadelites and other reps will defo continue conversation longer-term โฆ
An astonishing interview on @BBCWorldatOne between Trumpโs @SebGorka & @sarah_montague. Everyone who cares about journalism and how we access truthful reporting should listen in full from 13:30 (previous segment from 09:10 also useful context) #bbcwato https://t.co/gawhfuTAfy
Listened to teacher on Radio4 PM stuck with entire Year 5 in Spain after Heathrow disruption. Her verve and calmness, the way she was making it an adventure for the kids (who will now journey for 24 hours by coach and ferry) was a classic example of why teachers are ace.
@RogersHistory The type of horrific murder in modern Britain has shifted. But I think it also almost incontrovertible that itโs considerably lower than in many previous centuries. I believe, with Hugo, that arc of progress does go upwards, with horrific bumps on the way. https://t.co/DydTzXm82c
Down in London for several days with @noisyclassroom. Just had my first ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ swimming lesson in 30 years @Leisureforall Brixton Rec before early train to Northampton tomorrow. LO was to โswim very relaxed, and go home like you feel you have used no energyโ. Nice ๐ ๐ .
@FATCAed @RevRichardColes @elonmusk The problem is Iโm pretty certain Elon Musk has tweaked the algorithms so
he doesnโt get properly community noted. Coles is on shaky ground about the right to say untrue things, as others have noted. What is concrete is that truly free forums need fairness as part of freedom.
โIf there is hope, it must lie in the schoolsโ
Wishing all colleagues returning to work today all the very best for 2025. Whatever context we work in, we have a vital and vitalising vocation. ๐ฐ& โฑ๏ธ are short, but are unquantifiable relative to ๐ and โthe audacity of hopeโ โฆ
So, my PhD by publication has just been approved by @LSBU. โAutistic doctors: leveraging insider perspectives to improve healthcare for autistic peopleโ.
I should be ecstatic. Iโm not. Why not?? ๐งต๐๐ป
Muskโs repeated explicit support of AfD sickens me. All those I know who know ๐ฉ๐ช well, and care deeply for it as I do, are deeply troubled by this crass & dangerous stupidity. Iโm sure most ๐ฌ๐ง teachers, esp of #mfl and #history agree. But Iโll be here until ๐ก go out #freespeech
Now on Bluesky, too, with two โHarold Raittโ accounts: https://t.co/U3MgeQYHWd for education stuff, https://t.co/oz14poJ7bA for community / communications / journalism / politics. Iโll also stay here until the lights go out ๐ก , posting my own posts on both platforms for now.
@MrChis6 @adamboxer1 I think we should have a lot more discussion of education unions within all education communities and forums. They have a huge role, there is โpower in a unionโ, and if thereโs not vigorous discussion of membersโ interests here, then reps get to gatekeep on grassroots discussion!
@SwailesRuth > What it *also* needs is the ease-of-use scrollability of X or Insta, which I know isnโt as easy as it looks, but as a global community which includes huge amounts of expertise (including in computing and UI/UX), I think we should dream big! ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฌ
Iโve been back on eduX a few months, but the algorithm mainly pushes me Elon Musk (who I donโt follow) and tedious edufaction spats. So I missed this whole ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ Curriculum Improvement Cycle starting up entirely, despite following all relevant accounts. eduX is broken; such a shame.
@SwailesRuth > Also, Twitter / X / Facebook / Insta have never been good at collating or aggregating ideas across threads, and particularly across time. Topics constantly pop up anew, without an easy way to build on previous discussion. Very inefficient! Any coders out there want to discuss?
