When will Europe understand that the US under Trump is our new enemy?
During a meeting at the White House on Friday, Trump demanded that Zelensky accept Russia's terms for ending the war and warned that Putin intends to "annihilate" all of Ukraine if it does not agree, the Financial Times reports.
The meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents escalated into a "loud argument" several times, and Trump "babbled constantly," according to people familiar with the events. Although Trump later supported freezing the current front line, the meeting apparently reflects the unpredictability of the US president's stance on the war and his willingness to support Putin's maximalist demands.
During the meeting, Trump adopted many of Putin's arguments word for word, even when they contradicted his own recent statements about Russia's vulnerabilities, according to European officials briefed on the meeting.
According to a European official familiar with the meeting, Trump told Zelensky that Putin had called the war a "special operation, not a war," adding that the Ukrainian leader must make a deal or face annihilation. The official reported that Trump predicted Ukraine's defeat and warned Zelensky, "If [Putin] wants to, he will destroy you."
At one point during the meeting, the US president dismissed maps of Ukraine showing the front line, according to an official familiar with the event. Trump said he was tired of seeing the map of the front line in Ukraine.

Trump also noted that the Russian economy is "doing great," the official added, in stark contrast to his recent public comments urging Putin to negotiate because the Russian economy is "on the verge of collapse."
Today, Trump told Fox News he is confident the conflict will end, adding that Putin "is going to take something; he has taken property."
On Thursday, Putin presented Trump with a new proposal that Ukraine cede parts of eastern Donbas that it still controls in exchange for the rest of the territories of the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions [controlled by Ukraine].
💬 Giving up [Donbas] to Russia without a fight is unacceptable for Ukrainian society, and Putin knows it, said Oleksandr Merezhko, chairman of the Ukrainian parliament's foreign affairs committee. He added that Putin could be pushing this controversial idea "with the aim of causing division in Ukraine and undermining our unity."
Zelenskyy was "very negative" after the meeting, one of the officials said, adding that European leaders were "not optimistic, but pragmatic in planning the next steps."
