Moshood Abiola National Stadium Shut Down Over Security Threat
The management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, has reportedly announced the immediate closure of the facility after receiving a credible security alert from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters.
All entrances to the stadium have been sealed from August 3, 2026, and the closure will remain in effect until the police issue further directives.

Team Nigeria ended its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on a high, finishing 7th on the final medals table with 24 medals comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze. The performance also saw Nigeria emerge as the highest-ranked African nation at the Games.
Australia topped the medals table with 171 medals (70 gold), followed by England, Canada, India, Scotland and New Zealand, with Nigeria completing the top seven.
It was one of Nigeria's most successful Commonwealth Games outings in recent years, with medals won across athletics, weightlifting, para-athletics, para-powerlifting and judo.
Among the standout performers were Samuel Ogazi, Ezekiel Nathaniel and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who all won historic Commonwealth gold medals in their respective events. Ruth Usoro, Udodi Onwuzurike, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Tobi Amusan, the relay teams, weightlifters and para-athletes also made valuable contributions to Nigeria's impressive medal haul.
