Nicola Sturgeon’s first gig as election pundit was the night the SNP collapsed in front of her eyes. Notably, she had some advice for “them” on strategy.
A summary of the events.
(Note: not in this report but interestingly she also said she would have kept the SNP-Greens deal)
You have rejected every overture from Alba since it was founded. You and other grifting MPs and MSPs and members have made constant abusive attacks on the Alba party and it's members and now you are greeting because they won't vote for you?
What F'n planet do you live on?
So basically the SNP stall for another two years. And then they'll be out of power so the pressure will be off. Indy is dead for a decade minimum. Well done, Sturgeon fans.
Kate has, although she may not realise it, blown any chance of ever becoming leader of the SNP.
By backing down in the hour of greatest need, she has shown cowardice.
Swinney will do nothing until 2026, then the troughers will fight it out for what remains of the SNP thereafter.
@LesleyRiddoch I respectfully disagree. After a decade of wasted opertunity, hollow pre-lection rhetoric and a failure to develop a worthwhile independence strategy, SNP continuity, pretty much defers independence indefinitely. Sad times. ##SNPSTITCHUP#wasteddecade
SNP stitch up in place. That's independence defered indefinitely.
The Murrells and their Continuety Club have a lot to answer for. Looks like SNP will have to be wiped out electoraly in order to De-Murrell and properly reset. Sad times. #SNPstitchup#SNP
@PeteWishart If 'Continuety John' becomes FM and independence continues to be sidelined indefinitely.. does that by default make Alba the "real SNP?
#snp#Alba
@PeteWishart Please No. The last thing we need is Continuety John. Nice enough bloke but destroys any chance of independence. A decade has been wasted already, don't waste another one. #kateforbes can offer SNP a fresh start & prevent SNP election wipeout.
Some very interesting comments from Alex Salmond on #PoliticsHub – looks like there’s been a ‘succession stitch-up’ to replace Humza with eminence grise, Swinney.
Humza rumored to be resigning later today? Good news for indy.
An end to Peter Murrells legacy and an opertunity to rid ourselves of his continuety club. Let the de-merrelling begin. #snp#HumzaYousaf#demurrell#wasteddecade
@PeteWishart I left SNP because I could see it needed to be de-murrelled in order to actively and genuinely pursue independence. Im not a member of any political party, but I recognise that the Alba Party are basically just fed up disgruntled X SNP. @PeteWishart would be wise to remember it.
It’s been an eventful evening but I can’t go to bed without saying how ashamed I am by this. It’s a salutary reminder of the need for my party to move on from Sturgeon’s style of government by announcement with no plans for delivery. https://t.co/T6EFwRKOwT
@indyscotnews Pete is really pro independent.. like most if the SNP.. Pro Devolution. They seem content to continue with Devolution. Independence isn't a relevant issue for them anymore. Proofs in the pudding.. what's on offer? Answer: Continued devolution. #SNP#GE2024
"Not now" was key communication from the SNP leadership and unchanged for 7 years!!!
For the current SNP leader it is still, "Not Now".
Both Sturgeon and Yousaf have/had the power to cause a poll on independence - but always, "Not Now"
