Being an educator is so much bigger than curriculum and instruction. We are trusted with taking care of other people's children and that is serious work. But it is honorable and commendable work.

It can be an email to them or their family to check-in. Going to their games or performances. As they become adults, it could be a cup of coffee and a chat. I guess some day, it'll be weddings or meeting their kids. Or being at visitations or funerals when a family member dies.

I've learned so much from my time as an educator. One of the constant lessons is that my students will always be my students, if I choose to keep space available for them. They get older, but they're still "my kids" and that is a responsibility that is important to me.
