As part of its Centenary Year celebrations, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad proudly conferred the Special Centenary Award upon distinguished alumnus Dr. Mohinder Singh Gulati (https://t.co/QuL6jY8hY5. Petroleum Engineering, Class of 1962) at his residence in the USA.

A globally acclaimed pioneer in geothermal energy, Dr. Gulati has made outstanding contributions to the energy sector while remaining deeply connected to his alma mater. In a landmark gesture, he has pledged ₹10 crore towards the construction of the Multi-Purpose Convention Hall in the upcoming Centenary Building at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad—one of the largest alumni contributions in the Institute's history.

The award was presented by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Prof. Rajeev Upadhyay, Dean (Alumni Affairs).

Dr. Gulati's remarkable journey and extraordinary generosity embody the true spirit of excellence, innovation, and giving back, inspiring generations of IIT (ISM) alumni and students.

Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Soumitra Maity, Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, on being selected for the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Bronze Medal 2027 in recognition of his outstanding research contributions to Chemistry.

The CRSI Bronze Medal is one of India's most prestigious honours for young and mid-career researchers, recognizing exceptional originality, scientific excellence, and promising contributions to chemical sciences.

Dr. Maity will receive the award and deliver a flash talk and poster presentation at the 39th CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry, scheduled to be held at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, in July 2027.

🌍 Strengthening Global Academic & Research Partnerships

A major milestone was achieved as TEXMiN Foundation, the Technology Innovation Hub at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UiT – The Arctic University of Norway under the SEER Project, funded by the UTFORSK Programme of the Government of Norway.

The MoU will foster collaborative research, innovation, technology development, entrepreneurship, capacity building, and mobility of students, faculty members, and researchers. The partnership will focus on sustainable mining, critical minerals, advanced technologies, innovation ecosystems, and Arctic-region research.

The high-level engagement involving Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, and senior representatives from UiT also outlined a roadmap for joint academic courses, collaborative research projects, faculty exchanges, and enhanced internationalization initiatives.

A key highlight was the implementation of IC3 activities and mobility opportunities for 32 students under the SEER Project, creating valuable avenues for international exposure and interdisciplinary learning.

The two institutions also explored the possibility of launching Joint Master's and Joint Doctoral programmes, further strengthening academic cooperation and global research engagement.

This partnership reinforces IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation-driven research, and meaningful global collaboration.

🇮🇳 IIT (ISM) Dhanbad proudly flagged off the Yuva Sangam Phase–VI delegation under the Government of India’s flagship initiative Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

A 42-member delegation from Jharkhand has embarked on a transformative journey to IIT Indore from May 26 to June 3, 2026, as part of this unique youth exchange programme promoting cultural immersion, innovation, knowledge sharing, and national integration.

The delegation was flagged off by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in the gracious presence of international athlete and Pentathlon World Championship bronze medalist Ms. Anu Kumari, whose inspiring words encouraged participants to dream big and strive for excellence.

🌍 Global Representation | Strengthening International Engagement

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad continues to expand its global footprint with active participation in international academic platforms.

Mr. Mritunjay Sharma, Assistant Registrar (International Relations & Alumni Affairs), represented the institute at the Erasmus+ Administrative InterWeek hosted by the University of Porto, Portugal, under the MOBILE24 project.

The programme brought together participants from diverse countries, fostering dialogue on best practices, institutional collaboration, and cross-cultural exchange in higher education administration. His participation reflects the institute’s growing engagement with the Erasmus+ Programme and similar global initiatives.
