Oh man, don't even get me started on that "list." You get blackballed if you turn anything down, even if the job is in some remote spot that you would have a hard time moving to.

.....but we need to be paid for our experience. Do you guys remember when the state outsourced SPED jobs to that company from the mainland that brought in all these SPED teachers at a much higher pay rate per teacher than finding our own? That was a disaster.

I can't speak for the union but I can see why there is a hesitancy to try and up the pay for teachers from outside of our state. I think we don't want to see our jobs diminished from outside sources. But we are in a serious crisis to find qualified teachers.

This is something that needs to be addressed, @MrMedia808. I hired experienced teachers who just happened to be military spouses, and they were not compensated for their years of service in other states. That is unfair; is it something the union would support?

If someone wants to come here to teach and has the experience, we need to pay them their worth. It's insulting to give them only 6 years of credit when they have almost 20. Now I'm not advocating for Hawaii teachers to lose out on jobs to people from the mainland......

What can we do to pay out of state teachers more when they come here? I have a friend with almost 20 years of experience and HIDOE will only credit him with 6. His pay would slightly be above a starting teacher. He wanted to move back home but can't afford to. #onelessteacher
