When you go fishing, there is an abundance of wildlife to see both on land & in the water.
While working on the Wakulla River, our biologists are frequently visited by curious manatees. Manatees are native to Florida & were federally reclassified to threatened in May of 2017. As they can be found in many of our waterways, take care to protect this imperiled species.

Did you know that some manatees are ultimately deemed non-releasable?
At the @ColumbusZoo, due to the severity of her injuries, Stubby is considered conditionally non-releasable, but plays an incredibly important role as a “surrogate mother” to other manatees undergoing rehab.

Earlier this week FWC, @SheriffLeeFL, and @ZooTampa rescued a manatee near Saint James City. The male manatee is now at ZooTampa for a health evaluation and care.
