"DEVASTATING" mental health impact for youth from pandemic. Also, "screen time may be displacing activities known to be vital to physical and mental health, including sleep, exercise and in-person activity, research shows." @pasi_sahlberg

Teaching is hard enough, but almost unbearable when you feel unfulfilled, and undervalued. It's so important to treat staff in such a way that they want to stay and be their best!
Just because some teachers would rather stay in the classroom than go into administration doesn’t mean they aren’t leaders. Many have amazing talents & ideas which can benefit a school by placing them in situations to use those talents. Embrace them and their talents!
When we continue to make horrible decisions like taking away recess, electives, and the joy of learning while putting too much pressure on students just for a standardized test score, its time to do away with the standardized test.
EXCERPT: "They need to play and run around about 500 percent more than they currently do and I suspect that one day, we will look back in shame at how deprived we allowed this generation of kids to be, in the name of academic accomplishment." (4)
EXCERPT: "Play and exercise demonstrably boost academic achievement. Most principals should know this. But they ignore it."

Dear Science Deniers,
(Anti-vaxers, anti-maskers, climate hoaxers, flat-Earthers, etc)
You found one another & communicate via stupefyingly advanced technologies that pivot on the discoveries of scientists.
Just thought I’d remind you of that fact.

JAPAN LETS CHILDREN PLAY: My child attended a local Tokyo public school 5th grade. The atmosphere was love, kindness, joy and teamwork. Children served healthy meals to each other. Multiple outdoor breaks and recess every single day. (stock photo) @pasi_sahlberg@DianeRavitch
We spend 50% more hours in school than Finland. And they get 15 mins of recess every hour. They have NO standardized tests except for PISA in HS and they outperform us every time. If we can’t give students more movement, recess, and play time then we don’t understand education.
Teacher Tired. Few people know tired like teachers. In fact research found that teachers make more minute-by-minute decisions than brain surgeons, and that includes running around all day with a room full of children! You DESERVE a "self-care summer"!
