@pwharris I start by thinking about it as “7/8 x 4/5” or “7/8 of 4/5”. Then, I know 4/5 is equivalent to 8/10, making each of the 8 parts = to 1/10. 7/8 means I want 7 of the 8 parts so that makes 7/10.

@splantyboy @unrealbobtaylor @wfaa Newsflash…the $10,000 voucher won’t be enough to pay for most private schools. Even if it was, said private schools don’t offer transportation. Most of these ‘poor children’ you are talking about depend on bus transportation to and from school.

@pwharris Both numbers are 5 fractional pieces away from being a whole. Elevenths are smaller than ninths which means the missing part of 6/11 is smaller. This means 6/11 is closer to being one whole and sixth 11th is larger than four ninths.

@pwharris 3/7 is less than 5/9 because half of 7 is 3.5 so 3/7 is a little less than 1/2. Half of 9 is 4.5, so 5/9 is a little bigger than 1/2.

Actually, I’m an elementary math coordinator and an avid reader of professional books and research.
