@ConsciousD I taught 8th grade ELA using CD as a framework and lens in my classroom. Routines and rituals were in the form of classroom rhythm, schedule, agenda, class jobs, wish well, brain smart start and brain science! While reading literature we discussed the brain states of characters.
Our survival brain doesn't communicate through words, it communicates through our senses. Sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, proprioception, vestibular and interception feedback can soothe or trigger us. We can use a child's sensory seeking behaviour to help them REGULATE

Visuals don’t have to repeat themselves. ✈️ Think of schools like airports: each one is different, signs tell us where to go, restrooms, rules, where to find help or privacy. 🚸 In classrooms and hallways visuals help students feel safe transitioning in new places. 🚦
Children encode visuals into their prefrontal lobes and ultimately internalize them as mental models. Auditory reminders operate differently in the brain and do not create strong mental models. This is why visual routines are essential! #IHeartCD
