Our EL class is working on creating supporting reasons for a claim. We used story cubes and wrote some creative, fun stories that started with an opinion followed by reasons of support.
Students in 12 Blended put their detective caps on and investigated the suspects in the death of the king in Macbeth from the perspective of one of the characters. We considered witness statements (aka textual evidence) to help support our findings.
Students in Intensive English worked on analyzing characterization today by decorating water bottles. They picked colors to represent the emotions of their characters and drew symbols to represent them as well. We had fun being creative today!
English 12 Blended students closed out our reading of Beowulf with some Beowulf Olympics. Events included building Beowulfโs tower, heroic cycle trivia, and piecing together a puzzle while wearing a blindfold-teammates gave the directions. We had a great time!
Final house products. All stick and brick houses made it through the wind test, but only one straw house survived (pictured by itself). Students also spent the day practicing their English skills by giving a slides presentation of their house-building process. So much fun!
Intensive English students have been working intently to create their houses! Theyโre looking great so far! Thanks @SHSMediaCenter for all your help!
Our Intensive English students are working in pairs to create houses with their choice of materials. Weโre working collaboratively and further developing our English language skills by discussing with our partners. Stay tuned for the final products!
To start the school year, our students in Intensive English took part in a vocabulary scavenger hunt to refresh their knowledge of English words by labeling the classroom (and their teacher!)
Summer reading has been successful so far. June was filled with some graphic novels and mystery. Starting July with a new series and learning some new UDL / blended learning tips for the classroom. @english_strong
Students in English 12 Blended just finished Macbeth Act 2 so we made evidence boards to evaluate who the suspects are in the death of the king. Even though we (the audience) already know who the culprit is, it was fun viewing the scene from the perspective of another character!
Summer reading check-in @english_strong: Just finished The Martian (great message at the end!) and am now starting The Marrow Thieves-thanks for the recommendation @Mrs_Giaimo#SCSMustangsRead
