@UpTambourine@beyondwaiting Yep, and he was very offended when my husband suggested to him later on that he should probably call or text before he stops by. 🫠
My parents divorced when I was an adult, a married woman with children of my own, and it still messed up my perspective for a while. I needed more assurance from my husband that we were solid, that it would never be us. I can’t imagine being a kid going through that.
You realize your children just lost what made them feel safe right? And you described a completely amicable marriage so tonyour girls it came out of nowhere....this announcement shattered your daughters' perception of security for life. That is NOT an overstatement.
@opheliamuses@usuallypregnant Agreed, but my FIL will still tell you that’s why he feels unwelcome at our house bc I expect a heads up before people stop by. 🙄
@Cernovich We’d never get divorced, but even if something ever happened to my husband, I would not date, partially for this reason. I will not risk my children’s safety over loneliness.
Reminds me of the episode of Bones where Booth says, “Bones busts into MY bathroom and I'm weird for being naked?!" Don’t walk into someone else’s house unannounced and then be upset about what you see.
@AshtonF1907@usuallypregnant This. You see somehow indisposed like that, you pretend you didn’t and you never say a word about it. Trying to make her the bad guy for being partially naked in her own home is insane behavior.
@mandalynns23 Personally, I’d rather have something my children will actually eat than something 100% from scratch bc guess who has to heat up chicken tenders if they won’t eat what someone brings? 😅
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” (3 John 4) I can attest to this. NOTHING this world offers can compare to the joy of having children who walk in truth. When it’s all said and done, this is all that matters.
Last night, we had all of my children, their spouses, and grandchildren (19) over for dinner. It was loud and crazy but SO much fun and memorable. Everyone gets along, loves Jesus, the cousins love each other, and nothing could ever bring me more joy than this. ♥️
@PrimallyRooted Honestly, I feel like my midwife does the opposite. She is always so calm and composed that we didn’t realize how bad my situation was until later when we were each talking about what we remembered about it. I do think what you described is more common though.
@hollowearthterf SAHM with a blue collar husband, and I am very grateful that this isn’t the case for us. We both highly value our children being raised and educated at home, and we thank each other regularly for the contributions and sacrifices the other makes to make this lifestyle possible.
I made an unsettling discovery in my undergraduate class on financial planning last week. While explaining mortgages, I asked my 38 students this question: if you buy a $400,000 house and pay 20% in cash towards the purchase, what will be the amount that you finance?
Not a single student could tell me the answer. Despite the fact that they are all juniors and seniors majoring in business.
I added more questions: what is 30 percent of 80? 60 percent of 90? They didn’t know. The closest they got was when one student said, in response to my query of “40% of 70”, that “I know it’s 4 times 7 but I don’t remember what that is.” Another student helpfully added, “28.”
They explained to me why they couldn’t answer these math questions: they were never taught multiplication tables, percentages or fractions during their K-12 schooling. Instead, they were taught how to use a calculator. Without one, they are not able to do basic arithmetic.
I later asked the dean about this, and he lamented that this isn’t a thing just for our university’s students; it’s a thing for their entire generation, nationwide.
When I was in K-12, the fierce debate among parents and educators was whether to allow calculators in class. The calculators won.
Today, the debate is about AI. And like before, the tech will win. But will that truly be a victory?

Even if the school is objectively good, the idea of being separated from our children starting at the age of 5/6 and not knowing what is going on in their life for the majority of their waking hours is insane.
