For over two decades, Bahaa el-Din Ahmed Hussein el-Akkad was a highly respected imam leading a prominent mosque in Cairo, Egypt. He was deeply entrenched in his original faith, even publishing a massive 500-page theological book defending its traditions.

But after years of rigorously and objectively studying the Scriptures, everything changed. In January 2005, he made a decision that he knew would cost him his freedom: he completely surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. In handwritten notes later smuggled out of his confinement, he stated firmly that anyone who truly studies both paths with an open heart will inevitably choose the Christian way.

Just three months after his conversion, he was taken into custody by state authorities. Despite a court ordering his release a year later, officials ignored the ruling and transferred him to a harsh, remote desert facility. He was given an ultimatum: remain locked away indefinitely, or act as an informant against other converts.

He chose Christ.

He endured two full years of strict confinement without ever facing formal charges before finally being released in 2007.

His story is a reminder of the massive price many still pay for their faith in Christ.

Across the globe, countless christians face unimaginable persecution simply for declaring Christ as King.

We must never take our freedom to worship for granted, and we must continually pray for the men and women who risk absolutely everything for the Lord.
