@MrsAshleyKaplan @mrsjmarquardt You can find research to support heavy phonics, research for Guided Reading, and research for balance between both. Experiencing it firsthand is the best research of all. All kids learn differently. In my experience you teach to what the kids in your class need.

@MrsAshleyKaplan @mrsjmarquardt When I started teaching it was heavy phonics and the comp. was lacking so they flipped to more comp. and less phonics. Both ways came up with huge holes. A balance between both phonics and comprehension along with rich read aloud‘s and discussions is important for all kids.
