@dogslovecranmer Reason is subject to and serves Holy Scripture, not the other way around. Reason, when placed above Holy Scripture, is man placing himself above God.
@mtnhousewife There's a significant % of Gen X/Late Millennial men that have a socially liberal bent, even in Traditional spaces. An extension of college age crass brashness they never seemed to move beyond. Boobs & Beer & Manly Hobby X types, would be hooters customers in a different time.
@BillboardChris Illustrative math (not real #'s)
1980: 1000 in, 500 fixed, 500 food+
2026: 2000 in, 1500 fixed, 500 food+
Even if food only got 10% more expensive, it would be DOWN relative to the 1980 figure, but still be harder to pay for.
@BillboardChris Today fixed overhead is easily well over half one's paycheck. Discretionary income, before putting aside money for retirement, may be less than 30%. Food takes a huge chunk even if it's technically down relative to total income, and any increases are felt harder.
@cremieuxrecueil I have trouble squaring this with underemployment among recent college grads. Ideally the H-1B could be beneficial, but is that the current reality? I think "a bit" is also quite the understatement.
@Bemol417647 I think the Japanese audience filled this in with the Wukong myth since that's who he's directly based off of. Early DB borrowed a lot from Japanese folk-tales.
If this came out of societies that valued gender equality and did not initiate intense discrimination against men at all levels for the past 50 years it might be convincing. Unfortunately, that is a fairytale.
Anyone who's ever worked in an office can tell you that women are straight up better workers than men. When it comes to routine tasks where accuracy and attentiveness is needed, like bookkeeping, HR, public officials, law, etc. the best workers tend to be women. In Europe most finance departments are dominated by women to a ridiculous degree. Young women earn more than young men in many Western countries.
The absolute top jobs like finance, management, etc. will probably still be done mostly by men, but I fear that in 10 years the situation in "average" jobs will be even more lop-sided.
Women seeking a "provider" will become more and more ridiculous because women simply will earn better and have more job security than men.
I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours at Taco Bell with my friends eating burritos and drinking baja blast when I was in high school. It always came to $5.18 exactly. Before I was 16 and employed, I used to literally count out change and stuff it all in my pocket. I just checked what it would cost now, and it’s like twice as expensive.
Not really afraid of being cornered by muh “erm, what are you, ENTITLED?”
Yeah, I am. I do actually feel entitled to the same standard of living that I once had, and that my parents and grandparents CERTAINLY had. And I’m certainly not going to be gaslit by the same people who oversaw our decline into just accepting it.
Their spiritual leftism is evident. “REAL men make their own burritos” just as “REAL men aren’t scared of crackheads on the subway.” Give me a break.
I get that you’re MARRIED and a FATHER and that’s really freaking based, and I hope you enjoy making budget burritos at home, but young people aren’t going to accept that they’re not allowed to enjoy their youth in the same ways they implicitly understand previous generations were able to.
There is an Al’s Toy Barn aisle of these Tough Love Conservative DadsTM who curiously only apply that animosity towards young white men. In the next breath, they praise the immigrants who leech off our country for “just wanting a better life.” Even romanizing their “work ethic” because they keep seeing them in construction vests.
The CPI (Chipotle Price Index) does actually matter regardless of how you’d like to stomp your feet. Fortunately, Trump & Vance are aware of this fully, and in particular of how to actually address these concerns properly. But Neocons want to spoil it for one last chance to really stick it to the young people who hate them for failing to stop literally any of our problems. Enjoy it while you can I suppose.
@JoelWBerry Yeah well we can talk about the real problems (welfare state and immigration) or we can teach our countrymen they are serfs that must eat depression meals. Which you choose shows who you are.
@NeilShenvi Cheaply is a contested word.
Cheap compared to eating out? Duh.
Cheap relative to the much higher buying power of yesteryears? No.
The latter is the complaint. The former is the obfuscation.
@kierstonator@AnnaGraceWood The body is not sinful, but it is intimate. Sex is also good in the right place. Doesn't mean you should be hyper-promiscuous. Christians are called to modesty, which includes covering up.
