Looking for a Force and Balance lesson for your students? Look no further.
Develop critical thinking and engineering skills all in one, low cost project they will be proud of.
3rd graders will be engineering these in #STEM class this fall. ๐

3rd graders are learning about Magnetoreception (a sense which allows an organism to detect the Earthโs magnetic field) before creating a turtle compass. They magnetized a paper clip & placed it on a boat. The ๐งฒ pull of the clip allows the turtle to face North @OakRidgeMagnet
The Oak Ridge Arcade popped up at school this morning! 4th and 5th graders designed and built arcade games and pinball machines, and invited K-3 learners to give their games a try. Big shoutout to @MrWaltersSTEM for making this annual event a reality!
All grades have been coding these past few weeks. STEM leaders have been helping guide younger students to write and understand algorithms. Younger grades have been using Code Spark and https://t.co/PYRIvr79ci. Older grades are using Scratch to create games.

1st grade spent time learning about and creating compost. They put different materials in a compost observation container to see what decomposes first.

How do we reward ourselves for our weeks of Buckthorn removal? A fun day of STEM stations, of course! 5th grade got to explore STEM through team activities, robotics, VR, Pinball, and more! Needless to say, they loved it.

4th grade has been studying molecules and forces to better understand how hydraulics work. Theyโre now designing their own hydraulics mechanism using maker space supplies.

2nd graders have been playing board games to study what makes them fun and what improvements they would make to them. They will design their own board games to take home before winter break. โ๏ธ

Watch as the @OakRidgeMagnet students react to having their new acrylic #pinball machine in their #STEM classroom!
Students will use this machine as a spring board to circuitry, physical science, the engineering design process, and much more!
