@JenniferJokes@LarryOrei As someone who went through the mpt in 2020, taking and passing the test doesn’t prepare teachers to teach math.. mandating a math curriculum/pedagogy course in teachers college would be a more suitable approach. Just bc you understand math doesn’t mean you can teach it well.

In the end, the classroom is a space for learning. Mobile technology is a powerful tool for learning. We should not be erasing the value of this tool but, instead, should be teaching responsible use. This would allow us to fulfill the Min. of Ed's @OnGov digital literacy goals.
Today I had the pleasure of presenting to a group of fabulous educators at #qce2024@QueensEduc . I walked away with confidence that our future educators will take action to keep our kids safe online!
Highly recommend the @edXOnline UBC course - “AI for Teachers”. A great course with simple lessons to introduce AI to young students. #AI#learning#education
@sanger_i For example, some Ss decided to keep their phones in the cubbies bc they knew they couldn’t handle having it on their desk during class. I think this skill is critical for kids to learn before leaving high school (I taught mostly Gr11/12).
I have mixed feelings about this. Distraction? Yes! Useful tool? Also yes! When I was in the classroom, I created a policy with my students’ input and we talked a lot about self-regulation. They learned a lot about themselves & by the end of the sem were great with their phones.
A cellphone ban could be coming to #TDSB schools. Unauthorized use of smartphones is one of the biggest challenges in the classroom because teachers are dealing with distractions, disruptions, and loss of focus. #onted#cdned#edchat

@sanger_i I suppose it depends on the teacher and their relationship with Ss. I had great success with it. My Ss DID have to wait to use their phones. They were only allowed at appropriate times. It was the temptation of grabbing it at inappropriate times that they had to self-regulate.
My company is looking for someone with an educational (K-8) background to help us create mini game content. Topics include #DigitalCitizenship, #Passwords, etc. If you or someone you know might be interested in this contract position please let me know 👾🎮 #CyberSafety#EdTech
@chica71@Sflecce Sure, for elementary teachers, but the focus of it is pedagogy. The teacher candidates aren’t being taught the math content itself. In I/S you only take math if it’s your teachable. If they all have to write a math test, they should be supported in learning the math content..
Hey educators! With #NationalComputerSecurityDay coming up on Nov 30th, it got me thinking. Do you talk about cyber security & safety with your students? If not, would you like to start? 💻👾#CyberSafety#OntEd
