@aliangac A5. There are so many great options now... and yet I can't go past my all time favourites - Fried Green Tomatoes and The Hours... both the books and the movies! #AusLibChat
@aliangac A4. Making cataloguing more inclusive of LGBTQIA+ themes that don’t necessarily include subject headings ie – books that include diverse families but aren’t necessarily about diversity, or stories that contain LGBTQIA+ characters etc #AusLibChat.
@aliangac Q3. Yes... maybe... but in a perfect world. Data can help drive funding and decisions (I love data!), but it can be difficult to know the validity of the data and whether the collection of that data is making vulnerable members of the staff/community more vulnerable #AusLibChat
@aliangac A2. Signage can go a long way to feeling safe and welcome but asking for information or resources that are being sought is not always an option, ensuring that information and resources are clearly described and provided can aid discovery #AusLibChat
https://t.co/iOnmXRJgaX create a welcoming space #libraries can use rainbow signage, #pride flags, have staff wearing rainbow lanyards & theme #LGBTQIA#book displays. These are examples from Reykjavik City Library (left) and Melbourne’s Kathleen Syme Library (right) #AusLibChat
@aliangac A4 I wish I could remember the details of the request but I was basically told that the title has a bird in it and the author’s name was a colour. It was none of those things but I found it using plot keywords and the catalogue of subject specialised library! #Skill#AusLibChat
@TrishHepworth@RoseyRain@aliangac On a side note - I discovered last night that the stats on LOTE eresources from SA libraries have been skewed because the covers looked like the English versions and people were borrowing them by accident... who would do that 😂
@TrishHepworth@RoseyRain@aliangac Ha - yes! Since discovering that by accident I have been able to find a lot of French books for practice... German was less helpful ;) #AusLibChat
@aliangac A3 I wouldn’t call the academic resources that I keep up with in my role “current reads” - but I do spend WAY too much time creating current reads lists for myself! I use bookshop catalogues, literary prize sortlists and far too often all the recommendations from #AusLibChat
@aliangac A2. I am trying to remember what I have read this year! I really enjoyed Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead, and I finally got around to reading Sapiens a Brief History of Humankind – loved it! #AusLibChat
@aliangac A1 I am part of a book club… but we don’t even pretend to read a book anymore! I am excited to see the SNGG book club is back up and running – I’m finally getting around to reading Persuasions with them this month! #AusLibChat
@aliangac My favourite library produced podcast is uts student hacks (our student podcasters are more insightful than you can reasonably expect). Otherwise it's Stuff the British Stole.
