@DrAstorianWHS In Soc, the Harkness prompt was “How can we, as sociologists, analyze the media hype around Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s “Mr. President” dress to the Met Gala!
@DrAstorianWHS Our English Department, led by @angravens do them regularly with literature. I have a prompt and it worked but had some clunk to it. Would love to see what you do!
Education is not teacher centered or even student centered, but it is relationship centered. Teachers thrive w/ positive admin relationships & students thrive w/ positive teacher relationships. Relationships drive education.
“Great schools are not just led by the administration; they are led by teachers too. In great schools everyone owns the vision...and everyone is on a mission.” #EssentialTruths@SteeleThoughts@ToddWhitaker
After visiting a kindergarten class, I came to three certainties:
1. I could NEVER teach elementary school.
2. Elementary school teachers are superhuman.
3. If you ever want an honest opinion— just ask a 5-year-old. They are still too young to know they should lie.
What if our rubrics were wheels instead of linear progressions that give the impression of learning coming to an end? A colleague brought me this idea and I can’t stop thinking about it.
If I were a school leader visiting a classroom, before I asked kids what they were learning, I’d ask them how well they knew the people in the room.
If the people who spend months together don’t know each other, then we’ve missed an opportunity, missed the point. #connections
