But then they switch and pretend to be kind or helpful. Why? It's part of a cycle-sometimes called "hot and cold," "push and pull," or “trauma bonding.”

When they sense they've pushed too far or might lose control over someone, they turn on the charm again to reel you back in.

This kindness isn't usually coming from a place of genuine care; it's often manipulation designed to keep you attached confused, and dependent on their approval.

They need to control how people see them, so they wear a mask of kindness when it benefits them.

It's a way to maintain the narrative that they're "the good one," even when their actions say otherwise.
