Univ. Of South Alabama African American Studies program students visiting historic Brown Chapel AME church in Selma, AL! Thank you Mr. Sam Walker! #AFRusa23#GoJags
@kaiyahreed I would argue it still holds true. There are still so many groups, like people who have immigrated & people with felony records, who are unable to vote. #AFRusa23
Butterflies are iconic North American insects that are rapidly declining in population, and @USGS scientists are looking at Alabama for help in finding out why. 🦋
Here's how Alabama teachers and students can help:

Crystal Williams showed great courage in trying to do what’s right for families in Newark. When a school board won’t even take up a vote to allow for parent input, it shows just how how hard we need to fight for basic parent rights. https://t.co/ZpeGwAS8cx
I was lucky to grow up surrounded by relatives—grandparents, aunties, uncles, and more—with stories to tell and a willingness to share them. Through these conversations, I learned that I was the descendant of slaves and that my grandfather’s grandmother lived her life in bondage.
When they are young, children love to smile and readily respond to compassion. We must find ways to keep these qualities alive so they maintain a compassionate attitude and learn how to tackle anger as they grow up. Time at school should include methods to achieve peace of mind
Can you tell the discussion was lively with #Descendant (Netflix) co-writer/co-producer Dr. @kemjacks yesterday during my @csun_afrs Af Am Lit class?
Watch Descendant (and The Order of Myths) on Netflix! 🙌🏾✊🏾 Thank you, Dr. Jackson!
"The ancestral memory has to be restored."
"Now it's time for justice."
Just watched #Descendant.
Firmly threaded w/Zora Neal Hurston's Barracoon, Commandment Keeper Church, & Fieldwork Footage. So glad all 3 are on my syllabi this semester.
#Synchronicity ✨✨✨
I spent much of today on Martha Louise Menefield’s front porch. I’ll never forget the pain on her face as she recalled being arrested by Valley, Alabama police over a $77 trash bill. Please, please take the time to read and share her story (1) https://t.co/2zUp2SUM7Y
@AlaSchoolBoards When asked what to do about the inequality of resources, Bice recalls the 2013 study that proved Alabama's school funding system is both inadequate and inequitable. (That was the most UNDERCOVERED story of that year, IMO. An important and missed opportunity.) #AASBConvention
@AlaSchoolBoards Here's another post I made in 2015, trying to drive home the inequity of opportunity based on the local wealth in the community. #AASBConvention https://t.co/abmOvKjOiG
#Descendant is the most important documentary of the year. This film should be required viewing in schools.
An impactful movie on the descendants of the survivors of the Clotilda, the last ship that carried enslaved Africans to the United States. #Netflix
Time for a second helping of #Descendant. @isawstephen heads to Africatown to learn more about how recipes, stories, and traditions help preserve history, inspire action, and unite communities in #TheDescendantCookout. New episodes start 11/28 from Participant +
