A bittersweet day today celebrating my last day before maternity leave. I will miss my class so much! I, and the baby, were so very spoiled today 💞💙@GlenDhuPS
Finishing off 2023 strong with centres! I always sit with a group of students and run a lesson based on UFLI. I am already seeing improvement in the students writing! @GlenDhuPS
In math today we put everything we have learned about angles together to solve these two problems with a partner. After some thinking and using strategies and theories we practiced in class, most students were able to solve it! @GlenDhuPS
We finished our read aloud, Restart. Students worked on creating a new book cover today as many of them said they didn’t feel the actual book cover represented the book well. There are so many great covers coming along and I’m looking forward to final products! @GlenDhuPS
We have worked so hard on our Pixel Art characters and back stories! Students created video game characters online and then wrote a backstory for their character explaining accessories, special abilities etc. They look so great! @GlenDhuPS
Today we had an art afternoon with our buddies! It was a “Choose Your Own Adventure” where the kids chose whether they wanted to paint, make an ornament or use pastels. We had a great time! @GlenDhuPS
Today during our morphology lesson we learned about the three sounds that the suffix -ed makes and what the rules are for when the word makes either the /d/, /t/ or /ed/ pronunciation. We then practiced sorting words based off the ending sound we heard. @GlenDhuPS
We had a great day doing Scientist in the School today learning about electricity! Students got a chance to learn about circuits, using switches, motors, making static electricity and conductors/insulators among others! It was so much fun! @GlenDhuPS
We are learning to make connections in our reading. We are learning to use examples from the text and expand on the idea by answering the “why”. We practiced this by making connections to emojis! @GlenDhuPS
We started our Social Studies presentations today. Students researched a topic based around the idea of why people moved to/within Canada for not a “nice” reason. Today we learned about the Chinese Head Tax and Japanese Internment during WW2 among others! @GlenDhuPS
We have been practicing how to convert units of measurement and answer word problems using this skill as well. Today students worked in their groups to answer two word problems together. @GlenDhuPS
Today we helped our buddies read! We worked through “Short O” decodable texts and helped notice errors, and make corrections where needed when reading. I love seeing the 6s as leaders! @GlenDhuPS
We have been working on writing fake news articles after learning how to determine whether or not something is a real source or “fake news”. We also worked on parts of an article and using quotation marks! @GlenDhuPS
Today we started some morphology work! We started with the suffix -s or -es to make a word plural. We did some work together and then students brainstormed as many words as they could that use this suffix. @GlenDhuPS
Today we had our first meeting of our door decorating committee! Our school is having a door decorating competition and some my students came together so well to plan out and create jobs for how we are going to decorate our door! Can’t wait to see the final product! @GlenDhuPS
