This whole “SOR advocates think…” movement needs to cease. Brain research is not seen as a radical or politically charged opinion in other fields. No one tells the neurologist that they are confused. Science of reading is a body of evidence, not something we “think” and “feel.”

I teach my university students how to avoid biases like these (e.g. leading questions in survey design). Perhaps you should return your doctorates.

@egavactip I wish I knew enough to know what you were talking about back then. There was a growing undercurrent of right wing extremist propaganda at that time which was mostly reserved to blog websites and forums. Facebook and Twitter, and now Tik Tok, have allowed it to spread everywhere.
@RMac18@GeorgeLakoff Yglesias made a basic observation of objective facts and that set off E. Musk. @elonmusk hopes there are enough stupid people who fall for his combative response. Otherwise, there will be enough who know he is really anti-free speech in practice.
It's intuitive, and the idea can be substantiated with research. Check out any eye tracking studies on reading digital vs. print text and Maryanne Wolf's insights about all this.
Social media has had a negative impact on the reading stamina of most older millennials I know. The idea that being exposed to such technology since early childhood would impair interest in (/capacity for) reading books seems utterly intuitive
