Enjoying a Sunday morning ortho list.
Just about to start an ex-fix for an ankle fracture.
Got my saline for the cefuroxome and 0.75% chirocaine for the nerve block.
What could possibly go wrong? 😬
@TessaRDavis Put the patient's welfare first.
Know your limitations
Avoid hubris.
Ask for help when needed.
Enjoy the ups and downs
Have a great career
I can't believe that August was the start of my 30th year working in the @NHS.
After 27 years in @Anaesthesia and @chronicpain, management I not change a thing if I had my time again.
To all those starting a new career in anaesthesia this August, enjoy every moment, ups and downs
@Lesley_Faith Completely agree. Every woman should have access to anaesthesia on demand for hysteroscopy. It comes down to personal choice.
I'm fairness, this already happens with the gynecologist I work with, but I can't speak for others
@SeptemberDresan @ChristinaNunn35 If she has a definite diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia, could her gp prescribe carbamazepine (tegretol). This will help control the pain until she sees a pain specialist or neurologist. A neurosurgeon with a special interest may offer surgery, gamma knife or ablation
#WorldAnaesthesiaDay
October 15th is world anaesthesia day. A day to remember that every surgical development for the last 100 years was made possible by advances in anaesthesia
Many thanks to @aineltoner and @BelTel for this wonderful article on chronic pain in NI.
So important to raise awareness of this condition and to make sufferers and relatives aware that there is hope and treatment options are out there
@clarky_on@nick_the_bubble@GMC As an anaesthetist, it is staggering to think that these are done as o/p procedures, and we only see the ones who don't manage.
Spinal anaesthetic with prilocaine or chloroprocaine +/- sedation would save so much unnecessary distress
@Painaustralia@Tara_Moss@ABCTV Fantastic @Tara_Moss. Great job to raise the profile of chronic pain in the public awareness.
Always amazes me that something so prevalent in society is so rarely acknowledged.
The @niexecutive need to give dates for the reopening of
NI. With similar data as the rest of the UK there is no excuse for not giving people hope. All the UK CMO’s take advice from SAGE so why are we different? @DUPleader@RobinSwannMoH
@mlchealth If we are driven by 'data not dates', what more evidence does @niexecutive need. Time to lift the shackles and restore some normality. Our mental health needs it
Too complex for us thicko proles to understand. Sit tight and the grownups will tell us when we can go out. Maybe we have some bread and go to the circus.
If you can't explain something to a five year old, you don't understand it yourself
@mlchealth Reports of large numbers of folk not turning up for their vaccines. EU, still playing political games with peolples lives.
Hopefully this will get things back on track
"Fifty years of scientific and epidemiological research was dismissed, and…world adopted the model espoused by the Chinese Communist Party…without parliamentary debate…removing fundamental human and constitutional rights."
Incredible letter in BMJ.
