Wrapping up a term and thinking about what I hope my engineering students will remember as they go off to post-secondary and beyond. I've made a lot of powerpoints in the past two months, but I think this is the most important one by far.
as a kid you could visit the Scholastic Book Fair during the autumn and buy any number of cheaply printed paperbacks with garish covers and read them under the covers till well past bedtime. Goosebumps, Animorphs... we used to be a proper country.
Indigo has the advantage of time, but if you're a reader and don't know about Book Outlet.... you're welcome?
I'm definitely trying to buy more books secondhand!
I built a book scanner!
Spent the past two days working with ZBar and Python #isbnlib writing a script to help me catalogue my books faster. I can automatically pull book information from the ISBN barcodes and add it to a CSV. Scanned 100 books in about 30 mins!
Okay so I thought this was going to be much worse, but turns out I've read slightly less than half of the books I own! 🙈Buying books and reading books are two different hobbies....
I should also note this doesn't take into account library books that I've read, but don't own...
Social Services minister Todd Smith says his government has “learned” from the disastrous revamp of the Ontario Autism Program.
“We didnt get the redesign right the first time. We will now.”

You know what the biggest problem with pushing all-things-AI is? Wrong direction.
I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.

@mdeutschmtl I found that it took a bit of prompting to get it to spit out bogus papers. I only use GPT3.5 so initially it said that it couldn't generate any citations, but with further prompting it came up with some...
I am looking forward to your talk at the conference!
Teaching #ICD2O with @CMU_CS_Academy#CS1? Have your students demonstrate computational thinking by using a graphic organizer to break down conditionals - why they're necessary and how they are used to control output. Link to these templates next 👇🏻
We've got an excellent lineup of presentations this year - from teaching #csed in grades K-8, planning for the new grade 10 #ICD2O course, generative AI tools, and so much more!

So, I can make the case the Neopets HTML guide is one of the most influential tutorials in the history of coding: https://t.co/1fhuyvgRk4
I can't tell you how many developers in their 20s and 30s who've told me about starting here
Then CSS, then JS, then boom, *everything else*
There has been much noise around the fathers and godfathers of Artificial Intelligence, but how about its mothers?
Let's start with Ada Lovelace, often regarded as the first computer programmer, and wrote the first algorithm meant to be run on a computer.
