I just took action with @theactionnet: Resist Trump's Attempt to gut the EPA: Tell Biden to Issue an Executive Order to Phase Out All Coal Plants Operating in the U.S. by January 1, 2035. Take action here: https://t.co/SByVkyBgSN
Thank you to the @JudiciaryDems for allowing me to testify this afternoon! The right to travel must be protected to ensure that all people can access essential care whenever they need it.
At my hearing on the freedom to travel for abortion care, Senator Kennedy asked our witnesses to respond to a sensationalized, highly unrealistic hypothetical aimed at stoking fear.
Ms. Frye’s response says it all.
The courts have determined the almost complete exclusion of Black women from venture capital is legal — Black women get just .34 percent of these funds — but efforts to address that disparity violate the 14th Amendment, written to ensure BLACK people equal protection.
What we are witnessing, once again, is the alignment of white power against racial justice and redress. We now have a legal landscape that takes the very laws created to eliminate the anti-Black caste system and uses them destroy racial justice efforts. The Supreme Court has determined actual school segregation is fine, but efforts to remedy it are unconstitutional.
Black people are about 5 percent of US doctors, but HBCU medical schools have been targeted and threatened with lawsuits if they specifically seek to help Black people become doctors.
It is all part of a decades-long conservative campaign to co-opt the language of the civil rights movement and use it to dismantle any programs that might actually help bring about equality for descendants of slavery by claiming these efforts amount to anti-white “reverse” discrimination. As sociologist Stuart Hall once wrote, “Those who produce the discourse also have the power to make it true.”
I lay out this strategy and the ugly, permanently unequal society that it seeks to cement in my @nytmag cover story, “The Colorblindness Trap.” Unfortunately, we’ve just begun to witness the tearing down of the progress of the CRM. It’s going to get much worse. https://t.co/ophBuOqmk0
Black women die in childbirth at the highest rates in the industrialized world, and yet a program in California designed to address that race-specific harm is being sued for discriminating against people who are not dying at the highest rates.
So RR, former Secretary of Labor, said what I wanted to say, but only smarter. To clarify, the price of everything has gone up, especially for restauranteurs and franchise owners. But the media continuing to ignore the greed aspect of explaining rising prices is doing a huge disservice to how the issue is framed.
24 states, 2 territories, & D.C. have legalized cannabis for adult recreational use, & 38 states allow medical use of cannabis. The DOJ is planning to reschedule marijuana, but the time is NOW legalize cannabis entirely.

Unfortunately, most of the nearly half million Americans who are employed in the #cannabisindustry cannot access bank financing to purchase a home with or without this legislation. You know what would help... #SAFEBanking.
