An update on the flooding impacting Mississippi:
The state of Mississippi is monitoring rivers and creeks for active flood warnings in the following counties: Forrest, Hancock, Lamar, and Pearl River.
As of now, the Mississippi River is projected to stay below flood levels at Greenville, Tunica, Natchez, and Vicksburg.
The West Hobolochitto Creek near McNeill is at 18ft and dropped 1ft overnight.
The East Hobolochitto Creek near Caesar is at 15.4ft and dropped 4ft overnight.
The Pearl River near Pearl River, Louisiana, is at 15ft. It is forecasted to drop below the flood stage on May 31.
The Jourdan River at Kiln is at 6.2ft and dropped 1.5ft overnight.
The Wolf River above Gulfport is at 12.2ft. It is forecasted to drop below the flood stage on May 30.
The Biloxi River near Lyman is at 14ft and dropped 0.5ft overnight.
The Leaf River near McLain is expected to crest at 21ft on May 28.
The Chickasawhay River at Leakesville is expected to crest at 25ft on May 31.
This information could change based on weather conditions and how much additional rain Mississippi receives.
The state and @MSEMA will continue to work with local emergency managers and use all resources at their disposal to respond as necessary.

REMINDER! Disaster Service Centers for victims of Winter Storm Fern/DR-4899 are open Today, May 26th, through Wednesday, June 10th, in the following counties: Alcorn, Benton, Carroll, Coahoma, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Tallahatchie, Tishomingo, and Yazoo.
These centers are open for residents who need to apply for federal assistance or have questions that can be answered. The centers will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The centers will be closed on Sundays.
Please note: The application deadline is June 10. Receiving these benefits will not affect anyone’s Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits.
It is not necessary to go to a Disaster Recovery Center or Disaster Survivor Assistance location to apply with FEMA. Individuals can apply for assistance by registering online at https://t.co/OZeF1Jg9Oi, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or by using the FEMA App. If you use a relay service, such as a video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service, or others, provide FEMA with the number for that service.
Federal funding is available to affected individuals in Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Claiborne, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Yalobusha, and Yazoo Counties and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the disaster's effects.

The National Weather Service has issued a risk for flash flooding on Tuesday (5/26/26) across Mississippi.
Areas of Mississippi could see:
🌧️2-3" of rain in less than 3 hours
🌊Areas of flash flooding
🛣️Roads may be flooded or closed
🏡Some structures could be threatened with inundation
🌊Minor river flooding is expected

An update on the flash flooding in Forrest and Lamar counties:
Tragically, Forrest County has reported one death as a result of the flooding. Please pray for the family during this incredibly difficult time.
@MSEMA is in contact with local emergency managers and assisting in the response. An area coordinator has been deployed and additional resources will be deployed as requested.
If you encounter a flooded area, please do not try to drive or walk through it. For your safety, please turn around.

❗The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued an Elevated risk for flash flooding this weekend for parts of the state. The main threat comes on Sunday (5/24/26) and Monday (5/25/26).
